Arrodets-ez-Angles is a French commune with 110 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Argelès-Gazost arrondissement and the Lourdes-2 canton (until 2015: Lourdes-Est canton ).

The inhabitants are called Arrodetiens and Arrodetiennes .

Arrodets-ez-Angles is located about seven kilometers southeast of Lourdes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the historical province of Bigorre .

Arrodets-ez-Angles lies in the catchment area of the Adour River . The Échez , one of its tributaries, flows along the southwestern municipal boundary. The Litor, a tributary of the Échez, has its source in Arrodets-ez-Angles.

Toponymy

The Occitan name of the municipality is Arrodèth. Many theories try to explain the origin of the name, but since the early forms provide little clarity and sometimes contradict each other, the origin remains unclear. The derivation from the Gascognischen arròda ( German  Mühlrad ) as with the eponymous municipality Arrodets does not apply here, because Arrodets-ez-Angles is not traversed by larger rivers.

The community's nickname is Eths grilhons ( German  the crickets ).

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 305 at the beginning of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 55 inhabitants during short recovery phases up to the 1980s, before a phase of moderate growth began. which raised the population to a level of around 110 since the turn of the millennium.

Attractions

All Saints Church

• All Saints Church. It is a small 19th century church with buttresses and a bell tower , dedicated to All Saints' Day . A fire in 1747 destroyed the previous building and numerous houses in the village. The interior of the church, with a single nave and a semicircular apse, contains an oil painting depicting the crucifixion of Jesus , possibly from the church in Labassère .
