Parish Church of Saint-Saturnin

Parish Church of Saint-Saturnin

The inconspicuous little country church was built in 1724, as the inscription on a dry stone of marble is at the entrance. It has a single nave and a distinctive asymmetrical bell gable with two recesses for the bells. It is secured by a massive buttress on which a tower clock is suspended. The niche above the entrance houses a statue of the patron saint , Saint Saturninus of Toulouse , which is protected with a glass. In 2013 the church was completely restored. On this occasion, the earlier large tower clock, which no longer ran, was replaced by a smaller one.

The interior of the church is embellished with paneling and pulpit . The main altar, made of local stones, is the work of Voldoire from Lourdes. It is framed by two statues, one with Mary with baby Jesus , the other with Saint Saturninus. The holy water stoup shows the shape typical for the area with a closure made of convex wooden flaps. The church's modern stained glass windows were created by a local artist. One shows the representation of Saint Michael Garicoit . Inside the confessional from the 18th century, a wooden panel painting from the 17th or 18th century was discovered during the restoration, depicting St. Saturninus, which until then served as a partition. It has been inscribed as a Monument historique since May 25, 2012 .
