Arrayou-Lahitte is a French commune with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Argelès-Gazost arrondissement and the Lourdes-2 canton (until 2015: Lourdes-Est canton ).
The inhabitants are called Lahittois and Lahittoises .

Arrayou-Lahitte is located about eight kilometers east of Lourdes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the historic province of Bigorre .

Arrayou-Lahitte lies in the catchment area of the Adour River . The Litor and the Géline, tributaries of the Échez , cross the territory of the commune.
history
The former parishes of Arrayou and Lahitte were merged on January 1, 1965 to form Arrayou-Lahitte.
Toponymy
The Occitan name of the community is Arrajon-Era Hita. The etymon of the place name Arrayou is the Latin radium with the suffix onem ( German sun ray ), which was transferred to the gascognic arrajon ( German sunny place ), a reference to the geographical location on a sunny mountain slope. The name Lahitte has its origin in the Gascognischen hita ( German erected stone, boundary stone ).

Population development
After the records began, the population rose to a peak of around 350 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 85 inhabitants with short recovery phases by the 1990s, before a phase of moderate growth began. that continues today.

Attractions
Parish Church of Saint Martin in Arrayou
Its bell gable is reinforced by a supporting pillar . The church is undoubtedly of ancient origin, but has received numerous renovations over the centuries. The walls of the entrance portal are provided with inscriptions. On the left is the name Dulac, on the right that of Moulié. These are the names of the mayors who carried out the renovation of the building. The interior of the church hides a small altarpiece from the 18th century with two angel statuettes missing. In the tabernacle there is a statue of Mary with baby Jesus , restored, 2014. It is framed by two statuettes depicting the patron saint of the church, Saint Martin of Tours and John the Baptist . The sacristy was restored in 1989.
Parish church of Saint-Michel in Lahitte
The church was restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. The bell tower above the porch was built in 1912. In the rear part of the building, a small Christ monogram and a stone with an engraved scallop shell and the year "1731" from the earlier church are built into the wall outside. The floor inside the church was restored in 2014. Numerous votive plaques and memorial plaques decorate the gallery .

Arrayou-Lahitte is located in the AOC zones of the Porc noir de Bigorre pig breed and the Jambon noir de Bigorre ham .
