Artigues is a French commune with 16 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Argelès-Gazost arrondissement and the Lourdes-2 canton (until 2015: Lourdes-Est canton ).
The inhabitants are called Artiguais and Artiguaises .

Artigues is located about five kilometers southeast of Lourdes in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the historical province of Bigorre .

Artigues lies in the catchment area of the Adour River . The Ruisseau des Moulettes, a tributary of the Échez , rises on the territory of the municipality and flows along the border with the neighboring municipality of Sère-Lanso to the east.
Toponymy
The Occitan name of the community is Artigas. It originated from the Occitan artiga ( German cleared land ) and the ancient Celtic artica ( German fallow land ).

Population development
After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of around 95 by the second half of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to this day with short recovery phases.

Attractions
- Parish church of Martyre-de-Saint-Jean-Baptiste . The vestibule dates from 1752. Inside the church there is an altarpiece on the main altar from the 18th century, which has been inscribed as a monument historique since February 11, 1983 . The bas-relief depicts the beheading of John the Baptist .
