Adast is a small French commune with 292 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). Administratively it is assigned to the Arrondissement Argelès-Gazost and the canton of La Vallée des Gaves (previously Argelès-Gazost ).

The municipality is located in the Pyrenees , in the historic province of Bigorre , 14 kilometers south of Lourdes , on the orographic left bank of the Gave de Pau river . Neighboring municipalities of Adast are: Saint-Savin in the north-west, Beaucens in the east, Pierrefitte-Nestalas in the south and Uz in the south-west. The municipal area covers 105 hectares, the mean height is 488 meters above sea ​​level , the Mairie stands at an altitude of 450 meters.

Culture and sights

Adast is part of the Roman Catholic parish of Saint-Savin of the Diocese of Tarbes and Lourdes . The Saint-Barthélémy church was built in the 12th century. Their patron saint is Bartholomew , whose feast day is celebrated on August 24th. Only the Romanesque tympanum has been preserved from the original church building. The church was rebuilt several times in the 18th century. In 1860 it was enlarged, a sacristy was added on the south side of the building and a side chapel on the north side . In 1887 a new church tower was built because the old church tower had leaned sharply to one side and threatened to fall.
