Luz-Saint-Sauveur is a French commune in the Argelès-Gazost arrondissement in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region of the Central Pyrenees . It has 966 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

geography

The mountain village is also called Gave de Gavarnie on the upper reaches of the Gave de Pau . The Col du Tourmalet , which connects Luz-Saint-Sauveur with Campan , is the highest road pass in the French Pyrenees at 2,115 meters above sea level . The Luz Ardiden ski area is also part of the municipality . The 13.4 kilometer long serpentine from Luz-Saint-Sauveur to Luz Ardiden has a difference in altitude of 1036 meters and is considered to be one of the traditional “royal stages” of the Tour de France and the Vuelta .
