Damasta ( Greek Δαμάστα ( n. Sg. )) Is a village on the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete . Together with Astrino it forms a village in the municipality of Tylissos in the municipality of Malevizi .
history
The first mention of Dhamasta by Francesco Barozzi dates back to 1577.
During the Second World War , an ambush was laid there on August 8, 1944 by Cretan resistance fighters under the leadership of the British SOE officer William Stanley Moss in order to prevent the German armed forces from attacking Anogia . In retaliation, the Germans executed 30 male residents of the village on August 21, 1944 on the orders of General Friedrich-Wilhelm Müller .
