Montréjeau is a French commune with 2,796 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Gaudens and the canton of Saint-Gaudens . The inhabitants call themselves Montréjeaulais .

geography

Montréjeau lies in the Comminges landscape on the Garonne , into which the Neste tributary flows. Montréjeau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Les Toureilles in the north, Ausson in the east, Gourdan-Polignan in the southeast, Mazères-de-Neste in the southwest, Saint-Paul in the west and Cuguron in the northwest.

The A64 autoroute and the former Routes nationales 117 , 125 , 633 and 638 run through the municipality .

history

Montréjeau is a bastide that was built by Philip III in 1272 . Founded. On 1st Fructidor VII (August 18, 1799) the last royalist uprising was suppressed here by the troops of the revolutionary directory .
