Soueich ( Occitan Soeish ) is a French commune with 531 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitania region .
Location and climate
Soueich is located on the west bank of the Ger , a southern tributary of the Garonne, in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees in the historic county of Comminges at an altitude of approx. 395 m . The next major city is Saint-Gaudens, approx. 11 km to the north-west . The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 795 mm / year) falls over the year.

The steady population decline since the 19th century is mainly due to the loss of jobs in the countryside as a result of the mechanization of agriculture ( rural exodus ).

In earlier centuries economic self-sufficiency dominated . The community is still largely agriculturally oriented, with animal husbandry playing an important role.
history
At least parts of the place belonged to the Coming of Montsaunès , which was owned by the Knights Templar . A medieval city gate still existed around the middle of the 19th century.
