Bernd Mallmann (born August 10, 1966 in Boppard ) is a German author and chess teacher who is trying to establish chess as a subject in German schools . Mallmann lives in Trier and works as a chess teacher at a comprehensive school .

Career

Mallmann studied at the University of Ulm Biology and ended the study with the diploma from. He then completed an apprenticeship  as a data processing clerk at Debeka in Koblenz . In a second study , he then studied Catholic theology and German literature on teacher training . He initially worked as a secondary school teacher in Trier and now works as a comprehensive school teacher. He is the author of a curriculum for the optional subject chess and has written five student volumes and five teachers' manuals for this subject in the Chaturanga publishing house.

Mallmann and school chess

Mallmann introduced chess as an elective at his school. In his work as a school chess officer for Trier and as a former school chess officer for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , he fought to be able to introduce chess at other schools in the state. For this work he was made an honorary member by the Chess Youth Rhineland-Palatinate. With numerous lectures and interviews on the subject of "school chess", he has made a name for himself in chess circles nationwide and in 2015 was voted German Chess Teacher of the Year. In 2017 he hosted the German School Chess Congress at his school. He has given several interviews on the subject of school chess on radio and television. Because of his work, his school was awarded the highest number of points as a German Chess School. The achievement of the maximum number of points is so far unique in Germany. Mallmann is also successful as a school chess trainer; the girls' team at his school has already qualified twice for the German school chess championship. He is a member of the teaching team of the German School Chess Foundation and B-Trainer of the German Chess Federation.
