Urau is a French commune with 123 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Saint-Gaudens and to the municipal association Cagire Garonne Salat, founded in 2016 . The inhabitants are called Urauquois .

geography

Urau is located in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees in the southeast of the historic province of Comminges , about 25 kilometers southeast of Saint-Gaudens . The mountainous and very wooded municipality borders on the Ariège department . Urau is surrounded by the neighboring communities Saleich in the northeast and east, Francazal , Cazavet (point of contact) and Balaguères in the southeast, Buzan in the south, Fougaron in the southwest, Montastruc-de-Salies in the west and Castelbiague in the northwest.

Orau is located away from the nationally important traffic axes. The D117 trunk road runs from Saint-Gaudens to Saint-Girons six kilometers northeast of Orau . In Montsaunès , 18 kilometers north of Urau, there is a connection to the Autoroute A 64 from Bayonne to Toulouse . The train station in Lestelle-de-Saint-Martory, also 18 kilometers away, is on the Toulouse – Bayonne railway line .
