Aspet is a French commune with 879 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Gaudens and the canton of Bagnéres-de-Luchon , previously to Aspet , of which it was the capital.

The place is at the foot of the Pyrenees , about 15 kilometers southeast of Saint-Gaudens , on the right bank of the River Ger .
history
Aspet is mentioned for the first time in the 11th century and was then still called Spel (1068), later "Espel". At this time - 1068 - the first Seigneur d'Aspet appears, Ramon-At (hon). Arnaud II d'Aspet took part in the Third Crusade in 1190 . In the 15th century the barony passed to the Coarraze family, later to the Counts of Foix from the House of Comminges . Their heir, King Henry IV , added Aspet to the Domaine royal .
