Marsoulas is a small French commune with 123 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region .

location

Marsoulas is on the northern edge of the French Pyrenees; the next larger town, Salies-du-Salat , is about 2.5 kilometers to the west; the nearest town is Saint-Gaudens - it is about 29 kilometers (driving distance) to the west.

history

Information on the history of Marsoulas is not available. However, the cave on the outskirts with its prehistoric artifacts suggests a long period of human activity in this area.

On June 10, 1944, German troops of the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" - in retaliation for a previous assassination attempt by the French Resistance - massacred the civilian population in which 28 people, including a three-month-old baby , were killed.
