Saint-Plancard is a French commune with 364 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department of the Occitanie region . The inhabitants call themselves Saint-Plancardais .
geography
The municipality is located in the Comminges countryside , about 15 km northeast of Saint-Gaudens on the banks of the Save .
history
In the vicinity of Saint-Plancard was the ancient Lugdunum Convenarum . The name of the pre-Celtic god Sutugius was discovered on some dedicatory inscriptions from there .
In ancient times there was a Gallo-Roman temple. Its stones were later used for the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Jean-le-Vigne , located in the cemetery . The co-founder of modern archeology, Georges Fouet (* 1922, † 1993), chairman of the Société des Études du Comminges , discovered pre-Romanesque frescoes in this chapel.
