Valentine ( Occitan Valentina ) is a French commune with 877 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region ; it is part of the arrondissement of Saint-Gaudens and the canton of Saint-Gaudens . The inhabitants are called Valentinois .

geography

Valentine is located in the historic province of Comminges at the foot of the Pyrenees and on the banks of the Garonne , about 89 kilometers southwest of Toulouse . Valentine is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Gaudens in the north and east, Aspret-Sarrat in the south and south-east, Labarthe-Rivière in the west and south-west and Villeneuve-de-Rivière in the west.

The Bastide Valentine was founded in 1287 for the Seneschal Eustache de Beaumarchais.
