The approximately 1.0 m high statue menhir by Durenque has the abstract shape of a human body. It was found in 1940 in "La Cammazie" near Durenque. Durenque is 13 km north of the Tarn , away from the distribution area of the other statue menhirs, almost all of which are south of the Tarn.

The menhir is the only French statue menhir whose head is set back from the shoulders, which connects it with the menhirs of the Lunigiana in Liguria and the Toscana in Italy .

The statue menhir of Durenque represents a man with an oval head and a broad neck on a thin, rectangular body. The man wears a shoulder strap and a belt. The statue is made from local mica slate , with details of the face such as eyes and a small mouth. Only three statue menhirs show a mouth.

The elaborated details brought archaeologists to the statue in the 8th century BC. When the proliferation of iron instruments allowed such finesse of work. Such details were later found on a Bronze Age statue menhir.
