Jean Clottes divides the midi dolmen and menhirs in the 12 Départements des Midi in ( southern France ) into ten groups, two of which concern statue menhirs and eight dolmens . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

Clottes also counts dolmens with walls made of dry stone to the megalithic complex

The statue menhirs form one

  • eastern group "Statues menhirs Languedociennes" and one
  • western group “Statues menhirs Rouergates”.
