The dolmen of Pouey-Mayou (also called Pouey-Majou) belongs to the isolated group of the "Dolmens du Pays Basque" and is located near Bartrès , between Lourdes and Ossun , in the Hautes-Pyrénées (65) department in France . Around the Pouey Mayou hill (main hill) is the largest collection of preserved dolmens in the Pyrenees . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The remains of the chamber lie in a massive burial mound about 4.0 m high and 45.0 m in diameter. The dolmen has a length of 7.4 m, a width of 3.7 m and a height of 1.5 m.

A single capstone is still in situ at the eastern end . In the burial chamber, which had been emptied during the first excavation at the latest in 1879, the remains of corpses, which had apparently been placed in a sitting position, a gold bead and a flint blade were found .

Two layers from the Iron Age lay over the dolmen . A sword and vases picked up by farmers in the eastern part of the hill have been lost.

An arrowhead was found on the mound around 1965.
