Joachim Marie Jean Jacques Alexandre Jules Ambert (born February 8, 1804 in Caillac ; † March 31, 1890 ibid) was a French général de brigade and military writer.

Life

Joachim Ambert comes from a wealthy family: he was born at Château Lagrézette as the son of General Jean-Jacques Ambert . After being educated by private tutors, he attended a military academy and was able to successfully complete this training in 1824.

In the following years Ambert was able to distinguish himself in several wars and was also promoted several times. As a partisan of the Bourbons , his career also accelerated in the July monarchy ; from Lieutenant (December 21, 1830) to Lieutenant-Colonel (April 22, 1847).

Over the years, a small, but highly praised work of predominantly military non-fiction books emerged. When the Second Republic was constituted with the February Revolution of 1848 , Ambert also tried to succeed in politics. For some time he acted as the conseiller d'état .

reception

In addition to his books, Ambert published regularly in newspapers and magazines such as "l'Abeille", "Le Courrier français", "Siècle" and the "Spectateur militaire". Ambert was praised by the criticism that despite his own experience, he always tried to reproduce the facts neutrally.
