Bon-Adrien-Jeannot de Moncey , Duke of Conegliano (born July 31, 1754 in Moncey near Besançon , † April 20, 1842 Paris ) was a French general and Maréchal d'Empire .

biography

Moncey, son of a Parlementsadvokaten , came in 1769 in the army and became 1789 Capitaine ( Captain ). After he led a command in the army of the Eastern Pyrenees in 1793 , he was Général de brigade in 1794 , soon afterwards Général de division , and after he had conquered Fuenterrabia , San Sebastián and Tolosa and won the victory of Villanova on Oct. 17, 1794 , he forced 1795 Spain to the armistice of San Sebastián and the peace of Basel . In 1808 he entered Spain with a corps, defeated the insurgents of Valencia at the Almanza pass , took part in the failed siege of Saragossa and won the battle of Tudela with Lannes on November 23, 1808 . The following year his troops took part in the second successful siege of Zaragoza (1809) . As an opponent of Napoleon's policy of conquest , he was only given the inspection of the reserve squadrons in the campaigns of 1812 and 1813. In January 1814 he was appointed deputy commander of the National Guard in Paris and on March 30th helped defend the city. After the emperor's abdication, he was taken over by Louis XVIII. the pair raised, but lost because of his refusal to former comrades- Michel Ney , judging by 1815 this dignity and received it only in 1819 again. In 1820 he became the Kommandandten of 9 e appointed Division; In 1823 he commanded the 4 e Corps in Spain, with whom he Catalonia conquered. He died on April 20, 1842. The title Duke of Conegliano passed to his son-in-law, Alphonse Auguste Duchesne, Baron Gillevoisin, Marquis de Conegliano, 2 e duc de Conegliano (1791–1878).

Honors

His name is entered on the triumphal arch in Paris in the 33rd column. A memorial was erected to him on the Place de Clichy .
