The Monarch is a cruise ship that was operated by the Spanish shipping company Pullmantur Cruises until 2020 . It was created in 1991 as Monarch of the Seas for Royal Caribbean International and remained in use for this shipping company until 2013.

history

The Monarch of the Seas was on 31 July 1989 under the hull number A30 as the second ship of the three-unit Sovereign class to put Kiel and ran on 22 September 1990 by the stack . The takeover by Royal Caribbean International took place on October 15, 1991, the commissioning in November 1991. Sister ships are the Sovereign of the Seas , which entered service in 1988 and also transferred to Pullmantur Cruises as Sovereign in 2008, and the Majesty of the Seas, which entered service in 1992 .

On April 1, 2013, Royal Caribbean International handed over the then 22-year-old Monarch of the Seas to the sister company Pullmantur Cruises, which has since used the ship as monarch .

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Monarch was temporarily decommissioned together with its sister ship Sovereign and the Horizon in spring 2020 . After the impending bankruptcy of Pullmantur Cruises, it became known that the Monarch , like the two other ships in the fleet, would not return to service for the shipping company, but would instead be scrapped. After the expansion of the ship's facilities in Naples and a stopover in Malta , the 29-year-old monarch arrived on July 13, 2020 at the roadstead in front of the Aliağa scrapping yards , where the ship is to be demolished. On July 22, 2020, the Monarch was stranded for demolition.

Incidents

On December 3, 1990, a fire broke out on board during construction. The delivery was delayed by half a year.

On December 15, 1998, the ship ran into a reef off Sint Maarten .
