The motor ship was commissioned by Celebrity Cruises and named Horizon on April 11, 1990 . It entered service on April 30, 1990. In 1999 the ship was renovated. The ship was used by Celebrity Cruises for cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean and Alaska.
In November 2005 it was bought by the shipping company Island Cruises and converted for their own needs. The renovation lasted until spring 2006. The passenger capacity was increased from 1798 to 1875 passengers by converting a deck into another passenger deck. The number of crews is given at Island Cruises as 573 (for comparison: Celebrity Cruises gave a crew number of 642). The cruising speed of the ship, which operated under the name Island Star in the Mediterranean, Brazil and the Caribbean from the spring of 2006 , was now 18 knots (previously 21 knots).
In May 2009 the ship was taken over by Pullmantur Cruises and renamed Pacific Dream . After a period of renovation and modernization, the ship started in November 2010 as Horizon for the French shipping company Croisières de France (CDF), a subsidiary of Pullmantur Cruises. From the dissolution of CDF in 2017, the ship went back to Pullmantur Cruises.
Technical data and equipment
The vessel is powered by four diesel engines , two six-cylinder - and two nine-cylinder engines of the manufacturer MAN B & W driven (6 L 40/54, each with 3,996 kW power and 9 L 40/54 kW each 5,994 performance). The motors act on two variable pitch propellers via reduction gears . Three further MAN B&W diesel engines of type 6 L 40/54, each with an output of 3,300 kW, drive generators for power generation. An emergency generator was also installed, which is powered by a Caterpillar diesel engine (type: 3508 DI-TAU).
