Celebrity Cruises is a cruise line that forms part of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. heard.
history
Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1989 as an independent cruise company by the Greek shipping company Chandris . After the first cruise ship Meridian , further cruise ships were put into service in 1990 and 1992 with the Horizon and Zenith ships built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg . From 1995 to 1997, the new Century class , the Century , the Mercury and the Galaxy followed .
In 1997, Celebrity Cruises was taken over by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line , and together they have been operating as Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Between 2001 and 2002, Celebrity Cruises put four ships of the Millennium class built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique into service.
On May 4, 2007, Celebrity Cruises announced that it would market the two smaller ships Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest as a deluxe product under the newly created brand Azamara Club Cruises .
From 2008 to 2012 Celebrity Cruises put five ships of the Solstice class built at Meyer Werft into service.
At the beginning of December 2014, Celebrity Cruises signed a letter of intent with STX France (now Chantiers de l'Atlantique ) for the construction of two ships. The new class of ship received an environmentally friendly design. In May 2016, Celebrity Cruises ordered two more ships of this class with delivery in 2021 and 2022 with reservations. The lead ship Celebrity Edge was delivered on October 31, 2018. The Celebrity Apex followed in March 2020.
From January 2015, six ships are to be equipped with scrubbers. This means that areas in which the emission limits have been tightened from 2015 can continue to be driven into. The systems are supplied by Wärtsilä and Alfa Laval . The upgrade should be completed in 2017.
In 2016, Celebrity Cruises announced the acquisition of Galapagos Tour Operators Ocean Adventures. In the spring of 2016 the Eclipse and the Athala II joined the Celebrity Cruises fleet and were renamed Celebrity Xperience and Celebrity Xploration . In November 2017, the new Celebrity Flora was also ordered from Shipyard De Hoop with delivery in 2019 and laid down on December 15, 2017.
Current fleet
The ships have the shipping company's logo on the chimney. The "X" stands for the Greek letter " Chi " as the logo of the Chandris fleet. Since 2003 the first part of the ship names in the fleet has been “Celebrity”. Between 2008 and 2012, the five-ship Solstice class was built at Meyer Werft in Papenburg. The last ship of this class, the Celebrity Reflection , started operations in October 2012. Between 2010 and 2012, the older Millennium- class ships were modernized and the newer Solstice- class facilities were added.
All of the shipping company's ships are in the five-star segment.
