The Celebrity Infinity (dt. Infinity ) is a Panamax -Kreuzfahrtschiff the shipping company Celebrity cruises . She was built as the second of four Millennium class ships at the French shipyard Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire and entered service on March 3, 2001 as Infinity under the Liberian flag . Her sister ships are the Celebrity Millennium (2000), the Celebrity Summit (2001) and the Celebrity Constellation (2002).

history

The Infinity , which was laid on keel with the construction number S31 on October 11, 1999, was the second cruise ship to be equipped with energy-saving and environmentally friendly gas turbines and propeller pods. Like her sister ship the Millennium , the Infinity had considerable problems with this propulsion system from the start. For example, two cruises had to be canceled three months after delivery and there were repeated disruptions in the period that followed.

The cruise ship has eleven decks, ten of which are passenger decks (Continental Deck, Plaza Deck, Promenade Deck, Entertainment Deck, Penthouse Deck, Vista Deck, Panorama Deck, Sky Deck, Resort Deck, Sunrise Deck). There are 1035 inside and outside cabins and suites available to passengers. There are two outdoor and one indoor pools and four whirlpools.

In June 2002 the change to the shipping register of the Bahamas took place . The name change to Celebrity Infinity was completed on June 18, 2007. Since January 2008 she has been sailing under the flag of Malta . The home port has been Valletta since then .

In November 2011 the Celebrity Infinity at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freetown Bahamas was completely renovated and equipped with many features of the successful new Solstice class . 60 additional cabins were installed. This increases the number of passengers by around 6 percent to a total of 2070 passengers.

On June 3, 2016, the ship collided with a pier in Ketchikan .

operation area

From Seattle , the Infinity has been cruising the waters around Alaska since commissioning in the summer season . It is used in South America in the winter season. When relocating from the base port of Fort Lauderdale to the target area and when returning, the Panama Canal will be passed .

The Celebrity Infinity was in European waters for the first time in 2013. The ship sailed from Harwich to the British Isles and the fjords of Norway and Iceland . In the winter half-year she will continue to be in the Panama Canal and South America .
