The Celebrity Silhouette is a cruise ship operated by the Celebrity Cruises shipping company .

history

The ship was built on behalf of the Celebrity Cruises shipping company at Meyer Werft in Papenburg and completed in summer 2011. On January 29, 2011, the ship left the construction dock for the first time because it had to be repositioned in the construction dock to assemble the bow. The Celebrity Silhouette, undocked in June 2011, belongs to the Solstice class and was opened on June 30th / 1st. July 2011 transferred over the Ems to Eemshaven , for this purpose the Ems was dammed from noon on June 30th. Several test drives and test drives were carried out from Eemshaven with Meyer Werft employees. Celebrity Cruises took over the ship in Eemshaven on July 18 and transferred it to Hamburg, where the ship was christened on July 21, 2011. Godmother was the American Michelle Morgan , CEO & President of Signature Travel Network - one of the largest travel agency associations in North America. After the christening, the Celebrity Silhouette set off on a 2-night introductory trip for invited guests on the same day. On July 23, 2011, the official maiden voyage of the Celebrity Silhouette began in Hamburg , which took the ship to Civitavecchia near Rome.

Between spring and autumn, the Celebrity Silhouette sails the Mediterranean from Civitavecchia and Venice , and in the winter months it has its base port in Fort Lauderdale for cruises to the western and eastern Caribbean .

details

The Celebrity Silhouette is around 315 meters long, 36.80 meters wide and has a maximum draft of eight meters. The ship is measured at 122,210 GT . Of the 17 decks of the ship, 13 are passenger decks , which are available for a maximum of 2886 passengers. There are 1443 cabins. The Celebrity Silhouette is the fourth ship in the Solstice class. Compared to the predecessor ships Celebrity Solstice (built in 2008), Celebrity Equinox (built in 2009) and Celebrity Eclipse (built in 2010), the shipping company had several changes made in the public areas of the ship. For example, the so-called Lawn Club - a 2000 m² real lawn on deck 15 - was previously a glass-blowing workshop. This has been replaced on the Celebrity Silhouette by the “Lawn Club Grill” restaurant.

drive

The drive of the Celebrity Silhouette consists of two controllable Azipods from the manufacturer ABB . The energy requirement is covered by four MAN Diesel & Turbo SE 14V48 / 60CR diesel engines . The top speed is around 24 knots .

criticism

On the occasion of the christening of the Celebrity Silhouette in 2011, NABU criticized that the ship's propulsion system was not environmentally friendly enough. The ship has neither a soot particle filter nor a desulfurization system (neither system is required by law for the Celebrity Silhouette ). According to calculations by NABU, on its 5,000-kilometer maiden voyage, the Celebrity Silhouette emits as much soot as 270,000 cars, as much nitrogen oxides as 4,700,000 cars and as much sulfur oxides as all cars in Europe together would emit on the same route.
