Gerhard Sauder (born September 6, 1938 in Karlsruhe ) is a German philologist and literary scholar .

education

Gerhard Sauder was born as the son of the general manager August Sauder and his wife Rosa Sauder. He spent his childhood and youth in Karlsruhe, where he attended elementary school in the Durlach district . In 1949 he switched to the Markgrafen-Gymnasium in Durlach; there he passed his Abitur in 1958. From 1958 to 1963 he studied German , Romance studies , philosophy and art history at the universities in Heidelberg and Paris . He passed his first state examination in 1963 in Heidelberg , the second state examination followed in 1965. In 1967 he received his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg under Arthur Henkel , and in 1973 his doctoral supervisor completed his habilitation in the field of “German and comparative literary history”.

Gerhard Sauder is married and has three children. He lives with his family in St. Ingbert .

Professional career

Sauder began his professional career in 1965 as a trainee teacher and graduate professor at the Helmholtz grammar school in Karlsruhe . In the following year he moved to the chair of Professor Arthur Henkel in the German Department of Heidelberg University as a research assistant . In 1969 he was appointed to the Academic Council and in 1971 to the Academic Senior Councilor. In 1974 he was elected Vice Dean of the Faculty of New Philology at the same university. A year later he was given the title of professor there.

In 1976 Sauder accepted the call as full professor at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken . There he held the chairmanship of the "Modern Linguistics and Literature Studies" department in 1978/79. In 1987, Sauder took on a visiting professorship at the Tbilisi State University ( Georgia ). This was followed in 1992 by a three-month visiting professorship at the University of Melbourne ( Australia ). From 1990 to 1992 he was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty of Saarland University . In 2006 Sauder retired .

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Sauder made a name for himself as an editor of literary works. He is co-editor of the critical edition of the works by painter Müller , the Munich Goethe edition and the collected works of Ludwig Harig . Another focus of his journalistic work is the artist Albert Weisgerber ; among other things, he published his letters and documents.
