Ronc Traoucat dolmen
The six dolmens of Ronc Traoucat form a necropolis of round or oval cairns near La Grand-Combe in the Cevennes , in the Gard department in the French region of Occitania . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
The dolmens with corridor ( French dolmen à couloir ), often surrounded by a 0.5–0.8 meter high podium made of neatly placed curb stones, are typical for regions of the Midi (especially as the Pyrénées-Orientales department ). Usually only the dolmen chamber consists of megaliths . In the case of the “la Creu de la Llosa” ( dolmen near Saint-Michel-de-Llotes ) and Dolmen du Molí del Vent (“the windmill”; near Bélesta) it can be clearly seen that cairn material was removed. The hill consisted of dry stone masonry and loosely layered slabs of mica-like stone.
In Ronc Traoucat:
- Dolmens 1, 2 and 4 are almost completely destroyed (some stones of the border are standing).
- Dolmen 5 has a slightly better degree of preservation.
- Dolmens 3 and 6 are restored as reconstructions.
The Dolmen of Ronc Traoucat were in the Bronze Age built (about 2700 to 1800 v. Chr.) And during the Iron Age nachgenutzt . The late dolmens are in the tradition of the Epi- Chassey-Lagozza-Cortaillod cultures in southern France .
