Hylocomiastrum is a genus of deciduous mosses from the Hylocomiaceae family .

The species of this genus are often counted to the genus Hylocomium . According to the Stech & Frey system , the three species listed below are separated from the genus Hylocomium and placed in the genus described here.

features

They are strong plants with distant irregular or regular single to double pinnate stems. These are densely covered with branched paraphyllia . The adjoining to upright leaves are pointed short or long for a triangular or egg-shaped base. The leaf vein with a length of about one third to three quarters of the leaf length is single or two-fold, rarely three-fold. Leaf-wing cells are not differentiated or weakly indicated.

The species described here differ from the species of the genus Hylocomium in that they have shorter paraphyllia and strongly wrinkled leaves with a strong rib and smooth leaf cells.
