Prosper Cardinal Grech OSA , COM (* December 24, 1925 in Vittoriosa , Malta as Stanley Grech ; † December 30, 2019 ) was a Roman Catholic religious and theologian .

Life

He joined the Augustinian order in 1943 and made his profession on October 8, 1944 . On 25 March 1950 he received in the Lateran Basilica , the ordination . In 1953 he was at the Pontifical Gregorian University after completing a dissertation on the subject of reconciliation and God. The main themes in modern English theology on Dr. theol. PhD . In 1954 he also obtained a licentiate in biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute . From 1957 to 1958 he also studied Semitic Philology at Oxford University and from 1958 to 1959 at Cambridge University .

He was a professor of the Holy Scriptures at various Roman universities, especially the Pontifical Biblical Institute as well as at the Pontifical Lateran University and the Pontifical Gregorian University . He was the co-founder and first president of the Institute for Patristic at the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum . He has also collaborated with numerous dicasteries of the Roman Curia . He was a consultor to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and a member of the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum and the Pontifical Biblical Commission .
