Giuseppe Cardinal Versaldi (born July 30, 1943 in Villarboit , Piedmont ) is a Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Giuseppe Versaldi was ordained a priest on June 29, 1967 by Archbishop Albino Mensa for the Archdiocese of Vercelli . There he was initially active as a pastor and from 1976 as head of the newly established diocesan family council. From 1980 he taught canon law and psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University before becoming a consultant at the Apostolic Signature in 1985 . Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone appointed Versaldi on March 25, 1994 as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Vercelli.

On April 4, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the bishop of the northern Italian diocese of Alessandria . The Archbishop of Vercelli, Enrico Masseroni , donated him episcopal ordination on May 26, 2007; Co- consecrators were his predecessor, Bishop Fernando Charrier , and the bishop emeritus of Fossano and Cuneo , Natalino Pescarolo . Benedict XVI. called him on June 27, 2009 to be one of the Apostolic Visitators of the Legionaries of Christ to investigate allegations against the Congregation .

On September 21, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. as President of the Vatican Economic Prefecture ( Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See ). In the solemn consistory of February 18, 2012, Benedict XVI took him. as a cardinal deacon with the title deaconry Sacro Cuore di Gesù a Castro Pretorio in the college of cardinals . After Benedict's resignation, Cardinal Versaldi took part in the 2013 conclave . On March 31, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education .
