Enrico Masseroni (born February 20, 1939 in Borgomanero , Piedmont ; † September 30, 2019 in Moncrivello , Piedmont) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vercelli .

Life

Enrico Masseroni began his theological training in 1950. On 29 June 1963, the bishop gave him Placido Maria Cambiaghi in the Cathedral of Novara the priesthood . He became chaplain in Briga Novarese in 1963 and pastor in Valstrona in 1964 . In 1967 he was appointed deputy rector of the Small Seminary of San Carlo von Arona . In 1968 he completed a postgraduate course in Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . The following year he became head of the Novara seminary . In 1974 he graduated in Philosophy from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan .

On October 3, 1987, Masseroni was appointed Bishop of Mondovì by Pope John Paul II . December 8, 1987 he received in the Cathedral of Novara by Bishop Aldo Del Monte , the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Biella , Massimo Giustetti , and Auxiliary Bishop Francesco Maria Franzi from Novara. The inauguration in Mondovì took place on December 13, 1987.

On February 10, 1996, the appointment and on March 24, the inauguration as Archbishop of Vercelli took place. He received the pallium on June 29, 1996 from Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Basilica . Archbishop Masseroni was a member of the Commission for Catholic Education in Schools and Universities of the Italian Bishops' Conference .

On February 27, 2014, Pope Francis accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.

Enrico Masseroni was involved in many social projects in the Holy Land . He was a Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
