Jean-Louis Georgelin
Jean-Louis Georgelin (born August 30, 1948 in Aspet , Haute-Garonne Department ) is a French Général d'armée . From October 4, 2006 to February 25, 2010 he was Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces ( Chef d'état-major des armées , CEMA).
Military career
From 1958, Georgelin attended the Prytanée national militaire military academy in La Flèche , and in 1967 he switched to the Saint-Cyr military school . In 1970, Georgelin was employed as a Sous-lieutenant in the 9ème régiment de chasseurs parachutistes (9th Paratrooper Regiment ). From 1973 to 1976 he was responsible for NCO training at the École d'application de l'Infanterie in Montpellier . From 1976 he was used as a captain in the 153e Régiment d'Infanterie (153rd mechanized infantry regiment) in Mutzig . He served a year in the military intelligence service before becoming an advisor to the Chief of Staff of the French Army . As a major , he attended the US Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth , Kansas and then the École supérieure de guerre in Paris . From 1985 to 1988 he taught as a lieutenant colonel at the Saint-Cyr Military School. Then he was finance officer at the Chief of Staff of the Army. From 1991 until its dissolution in 1993, he was commander of the 153rd Infantry Regiment in Mutzig. He was then a consultant in the general staff and in the cabinet of the prime minister from 1994 to 1997. In 1997 he was promoted to the general de brigade as deputy commander of the 11ème division parachutiste (11th paratrooper brigade) and was a member of the army general staff from 1998 to 2002. In August 2000 he was promoted to Général de division and in October 2002 to Général de corps d'armée . From October 25, 2002 to October 4, 2006, Georgelin was President Jacques Chirac's Chief of Staff . During this time he was promoted to Général d'armée on October 3, 2003 . From October 4, 2006 to February 25, 2010 he was Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces.
On June 9, 2010, Jean-Louis Georgelin was appointed Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers .
Reconstruction of the Notre Dame
In April 2019, after the fire on the Note Dame in Paris, Georgelin was commissioned by Emmanuel Macron to rebuild the cathedral.
Private
Jean-Louis Georgelin is an oblate and lives a monastic life in association with the Benedictine religious order . He is a member of the Académie catholique de France . Georgelin is a member of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
