Petru Filip

Petru Filip (born January 23, 1955 in Slobozia , Romania ) is a Romanian politician and member of the Senate of Romania for the Partidul Social Democrat .

Life

Filip graduated from Timișoara University and received his engineering degree from the Faculty of Mechanics in 1979 . In 2002 he received his doctorate in mechanical engineering . In 2006 he received a doctorate in administrative management.

Filip was Lord Mayor of Oradea from 1991 to 1996 and 2000 to 2007 . In the same city he previously worked at the mechanical plant, first from 1981 to 1989 as an engineer and department manager, then from 1989 to 1991 as technical director. After the merger of his party with the Partidul Liberal Democrat , he belonged first to the resulting Partidul Democrat Liberal (PD-L), in whose presidential committee he held a vice-presidential post. In 2012 he switched to the social democratic party Partidul Social Democrat , which he has represented again in the upper senate chamber of the Romanian parliament as chairman of the standing committee on foreign affairs since the parliamentary elections in 2012 .

In the wake of Romania's accession to the European Union he was between December 2007 and December 2008, the European Parliament , where he as a representative of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) - European Democrats in the Committee on Regional Development and the Delegation for relations with the Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council or a deputy on the Employment and Social Affairs Committee .

From 2008–2010 he chaired the Senate's Standing Committee on Public Administration, Cadastre and Environmental Protection. From September 9, 2010 until the end of the 2008–2012 legislative period, he then held the office of one of the four Vice Presidents of the Romanian Senate.
