Partidul Liberal Democrat

The Partidul Liberal Democrat (German Liberal Democratic Party) was a center-right party in Romania that existed for only about a year .

It emerged in December 2006 as a split from the ruling Partidul Național Liberal under Prime Minister Călin Popescu Tăriceanu . It included 19 of the 332 members of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and 8 of 137 senators. The chairman was the former Prime Minister Theodor Stolojan .

The party was - also because of personal differences - in fundamental opposition to the Popescu Tăriceanu government and supported the President Traian Băsescu .

In December 2007, the Partidul Liberal Democrat merged with the Partidul Democrat ( Democratic Party ) under Emil Boc to form Partidul Democrat Liberal ( Democratic Liberal Party) .
