The 1977 Cadre 47/1 World Championship was the fourth Cadre 47/1 UMB World Championship, which was held in Cadre 45/1 until 1938. The tournament took place from March 24 to 27, 1977 in Groenlo in the Dutch province of Gelderland . It was the third Cadre 47/1 or 45/1 world championship in the Netherlands.
history
Berlin's Dieter Müller has never before so narrowly missed winning a world championship. He could actually have won the decisive game against the Belgian Ludo Dielis and thus secured the title. Müller led with 261: 201 and Dielis had to let Müller go back to the pool table with 15 points scored in a favorable position for Müller. With 39 points still missing, the game seemed over. But Müller showed nerves and got out on two points. Dielis used the good position he left behind and finished the game with 84 points. Since Müller still had the follow-up, a draw would be enough to lead the standings, as Dielis had drawn the game against José Gálvez . The follow-up succeeded and Müller united the balls in a good position. Everything went smoothly up to 295 point. Then he had to play a ball from the cadre field. He played it a bit too tight and the position was harder but easy to solve. He covered the following return by a touch and had to admit defeat. Since Dielis and Müller won their last two games, Dielis became world champion in Cadre 45/1 for the first time. The tournament in Groenlo was held for the 700th birthday of the city and was a huge success for the sport of billiards. Every day the hall was sold out with 1,200 spectators. Franz Stenzel set two new Austrian records in the best individual average (BED) and in the highest series (HS).
Tournament mode
A final round in the round robin system up to 300 points was played. In the event of a tie in the MPs, the following order is taken:
- MP = match points
- GD = general average
- HS = maximum series
