Henk Scholte (born September 29, 1932 in Tarakan , Indonesia or Eindhoven , Netherlands ; † May 4, 1998 ) was a Dutch carom player in the classic disciplines of cadre and free game and entrepreneur.

biography

The sources give different information about Scholte's place of birth, one according to which he was born in Tarakan (Indonesia), the other in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Henk got to know the “St. Paulus ”his parents in Woensel , today a district of Eindhoven, played billiards. Most of them said: it wouldn't work! But he prevailed, continued training and later Henk received billiards lessons from Piet van de Pol , which his mother paid. Then the small pool at home was replaced by match pool .

On April 7, 1955, Henk was Dutch champion in the free game. He was European champion seven times, 3 × free game: 1961 (in which he broke some of the records of his teacher van de Pol!), 1965 and 1969, 3 × in Cadre 47/2: 1964, 1965 and 1968 and 1 × in Cadre 71 / 2 1965. Like all amateur players at the time, Scholte had to earn his living alongside tournaments. He also gave billiard demonstrations, traded in billiard accessories and for a while also ran his own billiards center in Prins-Hendrik-Straat, where he taught himself.

Trivia

Because of its statue and black hair, “het lean manneke” (German: lean male; thin, small man) was called “de swarte Panther” (German: the black panther). A second nickname was "de Tijger" (German: The Tiger).
