The pentathlon world championship in 1938 , also known as the Pentathlon World Championship, was the fifth tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place in Cologne from April 4 to 8, 1938 . It was the first pentathlon world championship in Germany.

history

Originally this world championship started with seven players. But after the first match against Jan Sweering , the Belgian Charles Baltus had to end the tournament for health reasons. The results he played were taken out of the scoring. After many very good results in recent years, he was twice vice world champion, the French Jean Albert succeeded in Cologne. In a very tight and exciting tournament, he won the title from ex-world champion Sweering. The Frenchman Constant Côte , who started for the first time , came third. The German defending champion August Tiedtke , who arrived in Cologne immediately after the German three-cushion championship in Magdeburg, could not convince in the entire tournament. Only in three cushion did he show world-class performances. Since three cushion is rated very highly in the VGD, he achieved all tournament best performances.

mode

The whole tournament was played in round robin mode.

  1. PP = game points
  2. MP = match points
  3. VGD = relative general average
  4. BEVD = Best Individual Relative Average

When calculating the VGD, the points scored were calculated in the following way:

Free game : distance 200 points (points scored times 1 )

Cadre 45/2 : distance 150 points (points scored times 1.5 )

Binding : Distance 50 points (points scored times 10 )

Cadre 71/2 : Distance 100 (points scored times 4 )

3 cushion : distance 20 points (points scored times 50 )

All recordings were rated 1 times.

The pentathlon was also played in this sequence.

In the final table, the game points scored were scored before the match points and the VGD.
