The 2017 three-cushion world championship took place from November 8th to 12th in Santa Cruz , Bolivia . It was the second three-cushion world championship in Bolivia, after the one in La Paz in 1975 .

The world championship has been played in the three- cushion carom variant since 1928 . The defending champion was the Spaniard Daniel Sánchez .

General information

The UMB rules for three-band / singles apply (as of July 7, 2012). The game is played in 16 groups of three in the group phase, the first two in each group make it to the 1/16 final.

Expense allowance:

• Continental players: € 500
• Intercontinental player: € 700

Game sequence:

• Player 2 versus Player 3
• Player 1 versus loser 2/3
• Player 1 versus winner 2/3

The rating is as follows:

1. Match Points ( MP )
2. General average ( GD )
3. Maximum series ( HS )

Time regulation:

• 40 seconds per push
• After the time has elapsed (acoustic signal), the ball is placed again for the opponent
• Two time-outs per set within the 40 seconds are possible, new time limit: another 40 seconds

Follow-up:

• Qualifying round: Yes, both players get 1 point in the event of a tie
• Final round: Yes, in the event of a tie, shootout

The field consists of 48 players, with defending champion Daniel Sánchez automatically entitled to participate. The first 16 players in the world rankings (places 2–17) are invited directly. Places 18–46 are nominated by the individual continental associations, with the following breakdown: Europe (CEB): 12, new additions since April 2013 are Africa (ACF): 1, America (CPB): 10 and Asia (ACBC): 6 The places 47 and 48 are allocated via wildcards from the host association (here: CPB).

The first and second in the group qualify for the 1/16 finals. A ranking list will be drawn up after the group matches. Then the best of all groups plays against the bottom of the group of runners-up in all groups, the second against the penultimate, etc.
