The three-cushion world championship 1999 took place from August 13th to 16th in Bogotá ( Colombia ). It was the first three cushion World Cup in Colombia.

history

The Belgian all-rounder Frédéric Caudron was able to win his first three-cushion world title in Bogotá. After winning in the same place in the three-cushion World Cup in 1998, he was the outsider in the final. The Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl had not given a set until the final. Caudron started very well in the final and quickly won the first two sets. After 0: 9 deficit in the third set, Blomdahl was able to win the set with enormous willpower. In the fourth set, however, Caudron was again in front and won with 15:12. The general conditions for the World Cup were fantastic. At least 1,500 spectators were in the hall every day of the tournament. Colombian television was also there live and attracted more than 2 million people in front of the television at the final.

mode

The tournament was played with 32 participants. In the group games and in the game for third place, two sets of 15 points were played. From the round of 16 onwards there were three sets of wins per game.
