The 1997 three-cushion world championship took place for the second time, after 1995, from October 17th to 19th in the Dutch town of Grubbenvorst (municipality of Horst aan de Maas , Limburg province ).

history

After 10 years a three-cushion World Cup with UMB and BWA players was held again. But only four players were approved by the BWA. And the BWA professional Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl also immediately set two new official world records. He was the first player to achieve a general average GD of more than two points. The new record was now 2.015. In the individual average (ED) he was able to equalize his own record of 2.812 , which he set at a BWA World Cup tournament. Overall, it was the world championship with the best tournament average (1.289) of all time. In the third place match, the Italian Marco Zanetti won his first World Cup medal against the French Jean Christophe Roux with a 2-0 victory.

mode

The tournament was played with 32 participants. It was played completely in KO mode again. With the exception of the game for third place, all games consisted of three sets of 15 points each.
