The three-cushion world championship in 1988 was the 43rd edition of the three-cushion world championship, which had been held since 1928 in the three- cushion carom variant between November 6 and December 30, 1988 at six different venues around the world.

- and the final in Tokyo (Japan) 29. – 30. December.
A total of 36 players took part in the 6 tournaments. It was played on three winning sets of 15 points each.

World ranking points were awarded for the tournaments (see points key). The best of all tournaments was the new world champion. The Swede Torbjörn Blomdahl won this title with four wins from six tournaments and a total of 94 points .
