The 1980 three-cushion world championship was the 35th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 5 to 13, 1980 in Buenos Aires . It was the seventh three-cushion World Cup in Buenos Aires. This makes Buenos Aires the record host of the three-cushion World Cup.

history

Once again Raymond Ceulemans dominated the three-cushion world championship and secured his 17th world title in three-cushion. The Japanese Yoshio Yoshihara was close to breaking Ceulemans' best single average (BED) record of 60 balls in 24 shots (2,400). Against Galo Legarda he had 40 points after ten shots, 50 points after 14 shots and 57 points after 17 shots. For the last three points, however, he still needed eight shots. Thus, he remained a recording above the world record. After many years, the four-time world champion Dieter Müller was once again able to qualify for the three-cushion World Cup. After a bad start he got into the tournament better. In the end, it was only enough for ninth place.

“Everyone against everyone” was played with 60 points.
