The three-cushion world championship in 1948 was the twelfth tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from October 5th to 19th, 1948 in Buenos Aires . It was the first three-cushion world championship after World War II .

history

The Belgian René Vingerhoedt took part in a world championship for the first time. He also won the title, but only after a game with extra time. The stitch game ended 50:50 in 58 shots. Only in the extension to 10 Vingerhoedt won 10: 3 in 9 shots. Overall, the tournament was of a very high standard. José Bonomo set a new world record in the general average (GD) with 0.922 and Alfredo Fuentes set a new world record in BED with 1.562 . German participants were not yet admitted to this World Cup due to the war. With Franz Engl, an Austrian took part in a three-cushion World Cup for the first time.
