John B. Rice

John Birchard Rice (born June 23, 1832 in Fremont , Ohio , †  January 14, 1893 there ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Rice attended public schools in his home country and then Oberlin College . He then studied until 1857 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor medicine. In the following two years he intensified his acquired medical knowledge at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and in 1859 at Bellevue Hospital in New York City . He then lectured on military medicine at various medical schools in Ohio. During the civil war he was a military doctor in various units in the Union army . He later served as the curator of the Toledo State Hospital and was a member of the health committee in his hometown of Fremont.

Politically, Rice became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1880 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Thomas Ewing on March 4, 1881 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1882, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1883 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Rice practiced as a doctor in Fremont. He died there on January 14, 1893.
