Edmund Rowe

Edmund Rowe (born December 21, 1892 in Sherrodsville , Carroll County , Ohio , †  October 4, 1972 in Akron , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1945 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edmund Rowe attended public schools in his home country. Between 1905 and 1909 he worked in coal mining and then until 1913 in rubber production. He then worked in the machine trade until 1916. During World War I , he served in the US Navy between 1917 and 1919 . From 1919 to 1929 he ran a bowling facility. He also worked in the real estate business from 1920 and in the insurance industry from 1928. In 1936 he founded Rowe Oil & Chemical Co. At the same time, he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1928 and 1942 he was a member of Akron City Council.

In the 1942 congressional election , Rowe was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat Dow W. Harter on January 3, 1943 . Since he was not confirmed in 1944, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1945 . This was shaped by the events of the Second World War .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Edmund Rowe returned to the real estate industry. In 1948 he sought unsuccessfully to return to Congress. Between 1955 and 1959 he was a member of the Ohio General Assembly . In 1957 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of mayor of Akron. He died in this city on October 4, 1972.
