Mills Gardner

Mills Gardner (born January 30, 1830 in Russellville , Brown County , Ohio , †  February 20, 1910 in Washington Court House , Ohio) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1879 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mills Gardner attended Highland County public schools and Rankins Academy in Ripley . After that he worked for some as an employee in a haberdashery store. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1855, he began to work in Washington Court House in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1855 and 1859 he was a prosecutor in Fayette County . He served in the Ohio Senate in 1862 and 1863 ; from 1866 to 1867 he was a member of the House of Representatives there. In 1872 he took part as a delegate to a constitutional convention of his state.

In the congressional elections of 1876 Gardner was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Democrat John S. Savage on March 4, 1877 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1878, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1879 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Gardner practiced law again. He died in Washington Court House on February 20, 1910.
