Mary Jo Kilroy (born April 30, 1949 in Euclid , Ohio ) is an American politician . Between 2009 and 2011 she represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mary Jo Kilroy attended Cleveland State University until 1977 . After completing a law degree at Ohio State University in Columbus and being admitted to the bar in 1980, she began working in this profession. Between 1992 and 1999 she was a member of the Columbus City Education Committee; in 1999 she was President of this body. Politically, she joined the Democratic Party . In 1996 she ran unsuccessfully for the Ohio Senate . She served on the Franklin County County Council from 2001 to 2008 . Between 2005 and 2007 was its chairman. In 2006 she ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives.

In the 2008 congressional election , Kilroy was elected to the 15th  constituency of Ohio in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where she succeeded Republican Deborah Pryce on January 3, 2009 . Since it was not confirmed in 2010, it could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 2011 . There she was a member of the Finance Committee and the Internal Security Committee, as well as a total of five sub-committees. She was also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus .

In 2012, Mary Jo Kilroy ran unsuccessfully in her party's primary election for the upcoming congressional election.
