William R. Warnock

William Robert Warnock (born August 29, 1838 in Urbana , Champaign County , Ohio , †  July 30, 1918 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1905 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Warnock attended the public schools in his home country and then worked as a teacher in Urbana from 1856. He then studied until 1861 at Ohio Wesleyan University . During the civil war he served between July 21, 1862 and August 14, 1865 in various units in the Union Army . He achieved the rank of major and later a brevet lieutenant colonel. Between April and August 1865 he was Chief of Staff of the Union Forces in the Mississippi Military District . After continuing to study law in 1862 and being admitted to the bar in 1866, Warnock began working in this profession in Urbana. Between 1868 and 1872 he worked as a public prosecutor. From 1870 to 1876 he was also a member of the Champaign County School Inspectorate. He was the curator of Ohio Wesleyan University for 25 years. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He served in the Ohio Senate in 1876 ​​and 1877 . From 1879 to 1889 he was an appellate judge in the second judicial district of his state. He was also President of the National Bank of Urbana .

In the 1900 congressional elections , Warnock was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Archibald Lybrand on March 4, 1901 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1905 . From 1903 he was chairman of the Committee for the Control of Expenditures of the Ministry of War. In 1904 he renounced another candidacy.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, William Warnock practiced again as a lawyer. From 1906 to 1910 he was a United States Pension Agent in Columbus for the Federal Pension Agency . In 1913 and 1914 he was Ohio District Commander for the Grand Army of the Republic veterans organization . He died on July 30, 1918 in Urbana, where he was also buried.
