Edward Joseph Gardner

Edward Joseph Gardner (born August 7, 1898 in Hamilton , Ohio , †  December 7, 1950 there ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Gardner attended public schools in his home country and then graduated from the College of Commerce and Finance at Xavier University in Cincinnati . He then took courses at the Wharton School of Business , which is part of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . He finished his education at the University of Cincinnati . During the final stages of World War I , he served in the US Army in 1918 . Between 1920 and 1924 Gardner was the district auditor for a food distribution company in Philadelphia. He then worked as an accountant in his hometown of Hamilton. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He became Chairman of the Hamilton City Council and was Deputy Mayor from 1926 to 1928. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives in 1937, 1938, 1941, and 1942 .

In the 1944 congressional election , Gardner was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Republican Harry P. Jeffrey on January 3, 1945 . Since he was not confirmed in 1946, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1947 . During this time the Second World War ended . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Edward Gardner worked again as an accountant. He died on December 7, 1950 in Hamilton, where he was also buried.
