Augustus L. Perrill

Augustus Leonard Perrill (born January 20, 1807 in Moorefield , Hardy County , Virginia , †  June 2, 1882 in Circleville , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1847 he represented the state of Ohio in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1816, Augustus Perrill, born in what is now West Virginia , moved with his parents to Madison Township in Pickaway County , Ohio, where he attended local schools. He then taught as a teacher in Circleville for some time. Later he worked in agriculture. He was appointed deputy sheriff in 1833 and sheriff in his home district from 1834-1837. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1839 to 1841 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives .

In the congressional election of 1844 Perrill was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Ohio , where he succeeded Elias Florence on March 4, 1845 . Since he was not confirmed in 1846, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1847 . This was shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Augustus Perrill returned to farming. Between 1858 and 1863 he was a member of the Ohio Senate ; from 1865 to 1867 he was again a member of the House of Representatives of this state. He died on June 2, 1882 on his farm near Circleville.
